I’ve been enjoying the school holidays. Last week I came back from Australia after competing in the Surf Life Saving Trans Tasman Competition. We started with a carnival in Sydney where I won the U17 Board race. We then competed north of Sydney against a Central Coast and New South Wales Country team over a series of three carnivals.
We had an awesome time and competed against some really tough competition. I learnt heaps while I was away and got to meet other very talented people. I have now encountered some of the Australian ocean life after being severely stung by blue bottles in one of my races. My scars are slowly fading and I am now an expert on how to treat the stings. One of the girls in my team had to go to hospital after being stung.
After Sydney I flew down to Tasmania for a Triathlon. I was really gutted when I arrived in Tasmania and found out the triathlon had been changed to a duathlon due to flood waters. On top of that my bags went missing and finally turned up late the night before my race.
The duathlon was a disaster as during the bike the officials directed the athletes off the bike course at different stages of the bike laps. Some girls did 3 laps, some 3.5 laps (yep they made them do a U-turn) and some did 4. The officials then disqualified most of the field. Very frustrating to go all that way and have things occur that were completely out of our hands.
I have some important Surf Carnivals coming up over the next couple of weeks.

Pain is temporary, it may last one minute, one hour or one day but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. However if I quit, it lasts forever!!
