I have just finished a couple of weekends of intense Surf Life Saving competitions.
The first weekend was the NRC’s (Northern Regional Championships.) at Mount Maunganui. The waves were huge on the first day with many of the races postponed and boards and skis getting snapped in half. When Sunday came around the waves had decreased hugely and were only about 0.5m, big enough to be annoying though.
The most exciting races of the weekend were my Open Woman’s Board race final which came down to a sprint finish. I managed to take out first place. A great result because the next 4 place getters were all in the NZ or NZ development team competing in the International Series. I then backed it up and won the U19 Board race. My Open Woman’s Board Relay also won in a sprint finish. I also came 4th in the U19 Woman’s ski race and 2nd in the U19 Iron woman.
The NRC Competition was a huge highlight as I performed to my best, giving me lots of confidence for the DHL Surf League held the following weekend.
The DHL Surf League Competition is an Inter-provisional Championships, where the points your team scores from each race adds up over the two days of racing and the team with the highest points wins. Following the great results I had the previous weekend I was 2nd in the Board race to the International Australian Development member who was competing for Gisborne and won the Iron woman. My Auckland U19 team did pretty well to place 3rd overall.

Pain is temporary, it may last one minute, one hour or one day but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. However if I quit, it lasts forever!!
