Pain is temporary, it may last one minute, one hour or one day but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. However if I quit, it lasts forever!!

Summary Surf Life Saving Season 2012-2013

As the surf season has now ended I have taken the time to write a summary of the successful Surf Life Saving season I have had. This year I was able to put most of my focus into racing and training for Surf Life Saving competitions.  This allowed me to achieve some great results.
Central Region Champs: Here I won 5 gold and 2 silver medals across both the u19 and open age groups. I also won u19 and open competitor of the carnival taking home $500.
Eastern Region Champs: I won 4 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medals.
Northern Region champs: I won 10 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze medals.

Sonic series I placed 3rd in the open Iron woman Final and 1st in both the Open Ski and Board disciplines.

At NZ Nationals I took home 4 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medals. I was named in the Open 2013-2014 NZ squad.

Highlights of the year include unbeaten in the Open Woman’s Taplin and racing with a star paddler Travis Mitchell in the Open Mixed Double ski!!

With this being my last year for racing in the u19 age group I decided to head over the ditch and race at the Australian titles. I never thought racing would be so hard when you are sick but as I found out trying to do the iron woman (heat) I suffered severely. I started with a great swim leg but continued to fall further back each leg of the race. I gave every race my best shot and ended up just missing out on the open woman’s ski and board final. I was however able to make the u19 ski and board final. After a disastrous ski final I was determined to go home with something to hang around my neck!! The last day of competition came around, the sun was shining and all eyes were on you in the main event arena. After a great board start, leading around the buoys, half way back to the beach someone middle of the pack picked up a lucky wave and was gone. Still 2nd and 3rd place were in my sights and with a few girls finishing on the same wave I ran myself into 3rd!!! Really happy to bring home an Australian medal to New Zealand soil.

I would like to say a big thank you to Subway NZ for supporting me this year and helping me out financially with my travels. Also thank you to Sonic Surf Craft for the awesome board and ski I have been lucky enough to use over the last 2 seasons. And to Balance Nutrition for supplying me with the nutrition I need for racing, training and recovering. Every little bit helps!!! Lastly to Mairangi Bay Surf Life Saving club for the continued support and great coaching through out the year!!
