This morning I woke up at 4.30am as we had to leave the hotel at 5am for our trip down to the start line. As we stepped out of the bus and entered the race centre it started pissing down with rain. It didn’t stop raining until the U19 boys started at 7am.
The U19 girls started five minutes after the boys. Waiting for the start you could already tell who was going to be good and who was going to be bad. Firstly, some boys came down wearing a thick dive wetsuit that is hard to swim in. Some boys and girls had no wetsuit on at all. In the boys race one boy missed his start by 30sec and had to dive in late.
The race conditions were really testing as it had been raining right before we started and the water was only 15 degrees. We started in the water pushing off the side of the pontoon. There were 27 starters in my race. By the end of my swim I had already over taken 2 boys who had started 5min in front of us. I was 3rd out of the swim but straight away overtook a British girl on the run into transition.
The transition was huge but easy to find my bike. It was quite hard running with the bike as the grass was quite long and it was soaked. On the bike the British girl remained quite close but during the second lap of the bike I managed to drop her off my wheel and extend the gap. I extended the gap long enough to have a hard run but a comfortable finish on the blue carpet with many different people cheering for me.
I finished second behind another New Zealand competitor in the u19 age group world champs triathlon race. I was just so blown away by all the support as I crossed the finished line.
I would like to thank my coach Ally Boggs and SUBWAY for their support in helping get me to Hungary. My dad for being all over the race course giving me heaps of support. And my mum and sister for emailing me lots. I’d also like to thank my parents for being able to financially get me to Budapest.
We will be flying home from Budapest on Monday morning and arriving in Singapore. We will be in Singapore for 12 hours to get a tan and do some shopping. We will be arriving in NZ around 11am on Wednesday.
Thank you everyone for your great support and hope to see you back in New Zealand soon!!!!!!

Pain is temporary, it may last one minute, one hour or one day but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. However if I quit, it lasts forever!!
You Rock!
