Holy Moly! We turned up at Mount Maunganui beach last Friday afternoon and the waves were pumping 5-6 ft. A friend and I took our malibu boards out for a practice in the waves and we got smashed. It took us 15 minutes just to get out the back behind the break. The waves were so powerful the second wave I rolled, the handle on my board pulled out.
When Saturday morning came around we looked out our window to find the waves were still pretty big and powerful. 10am down on the beach, sun shining, we wait for the New Zealand trials to start. I competed in two board races and came second in both. I also competed in the iron woman and had an amazing race. I ended up finishing fourth overall.
On Sunday morning I woke to sore shoulders and legs but knew I had to get out of bed and get ready for the sprint Tin Man triathlon that started at 8am. Even with sore shoulders I had a pretty good swim and exited the water in second place. The bike course was nice and flat as I managed to average 38.4 km/h. The run was an undulating course around the base of Mount Maunganui. The whole triathlon was an amazing event and I placed second in the woman’s sprint distance race.
Unfortunately, I found out that despite how well I trialed, I wasn’t selected in the International Series Surf Lifesaving team. It’s tough being left out over athletes that I beat in all three races. I am now looking forward to racing the Australians in early January in a Trans Tasman series as part of the Northern Region Surf Life saving team.

Quotes
Pain is temporary, it may last one minute, one hour or one day but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. However if I quit, it lasts forever!!
