Several days after competing in the King of Rangitoto race and my legs are still recovering.
The race was a surf ski paddle from Takapuna Beach to Rangitoto Island, followed by a run to the top and back down, then a paddle back. The paddle was interesting as a huge container ship stormed through the channel directly in our path. After paddling through the ship’s wash we had a hard steep run up the summit of Rangitoto. I was about 5th female across in the paddle, first back into the surf ski after the run - only just ahead of Maddie Boon a fellow Mairangi Bay surf life-saving member.
Maddie overtook me in to the beach to win by 8 seconds. I took out the Under 19 age group, 8 minutes ahead of second pace.

Pain is temporary, it may last one minute, one hour or one day but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. However if I quit, it lasts forever!!
